CADET Program Launches with First Cohort at BioVentures
BioVentures launched the first CADET cohort, supporting cancer researchers with training, mentorship, and tools to translate discoveries into real-world impact.
The Cancer and Developing Entrepreneurial Technologies (CADET) program equips cancer researchers, clinicians, and trainees with foundational knowledge in healthcare innovation, intellectual property, and commercialization. Hosted by BioVentures, the technology transfer office of UAMS, the program supports participants in translating promising cancer discoveries into real-world impact through licensing, strategic partnerships, or new venture creation.
The Cancer and Developing Entrepreneurial Technologies (CADET) program is an innovation and entrepreneurship training initiative designed for cancer researchers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The program equips participants with the tools to identify unmet clinical needs, evaluate the commercial potential of their discoveries, and translate scientific research into real-world healthcare solutions. Through mentorship, training, and project development, CADET prepares researchers to advance innovations that can improve patient outcomes and move promising technologies toward commercialization. Upon successful completion of the program, participants gain practical experience in biomedical innovation and entrepreneurship.
Important dates:
Through structured educational sessions and practical guidance, participants gain insight into the technology transfer process, commercialization pathways, and the broader innovation ecosystem. The program is designed to empower innovators to recognize the potential of their work and confidently navigate the early stages of bringing new healthcare technologies to market.
MIEHT plays a key role in strengthening the innovation pipeline by preparing participants to engage with BioVentures and advance discoveries toward practical application.
The MIEHT program is open to students entering their M1 year who want to enhance their medical education with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. Applicants must be in good academic standing within the College of Medicine and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25.
No prior experience in entrepreneurship, business, or commercialization is required. The program is intended for individuals at any stage of their research or innovation journey.
To apply for the Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training (MIEHT) program, students must complete the online application form available here before April 30.
The application form will ask for basic information, including:
As part of the application, students will also be required to upload the following supporting materials:
Applications will be reviewed by the BioVentures team, and selected participants will be notified following the review process.
