The Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Honors Track (MIEHT) is an honors program designed for medical students at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). The program prepares future physicians to identify unmet clinical needs and develop solutions with real-world impact and commercialization potential. Upon successful completion of the four-year program, students receive an honors designation on their diploma.
The Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Honors Track (MIEHT) program provides researchers, clinicians, and trainees with foundational knowledge in healthcare innovation, intellectual property, and commercialization. Hosted by BioVentures, the technology transfer office of UAMS, the program helps participants understand how scientific discoveries can be translated into real-world impact through licensing, partnerships, or startup formation.
Through structured educational sessions and practical guidance, participants gain insight into the technology transfer process, commercialization pathways, and the broader innovation ecosystem. The program is designed to empower innovators to recognize the potential of their work and confidently navigate the early stages of bringing new healthcare technologies to market.
MIEHT plays a key role in strengthening the innovation pipeline by preparing participants to engage with BioVentures and advance discoveries toward practical application.
The MIEHT program is open to students entering their M2 year who want to enhance their medical education with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.
No prior experience in entrepreneurship, business, or commercialization is required. The program is intended for individuals at any stage of their research or innovation journey.
